Research

A major focus of Unseld's research is multi-cultural art resources and teacher education preparation in art. She is the author of Portfolios, a book series that combined American history, art and learning activities to introduce students to the contributions made by Americans of diverse cultures and races. In Portfolios: African-American Artists, students discover the work and lives of African-American artists while Portfolios: African-American Artists of the Old West, explores the lives of African-Americans who contribituted to the exploration of the American West through art centered activities. Dr. Unseld along with Dr. Pheobe Faris, completed the third Portfoilos series entitled Portfolio: Native American Artists. This resource focuses on the contributions of Native-American artists collectively as nation tribes and as individual artists.
